Valves for District Energy: District Cooling in Lusail City, Qatar

|   Application

District cooling is the cold equivalent of district heating. Both together stand for district energy where either cold or hot water is produced at a centralized location and then widely distributed in the surrounding area. The ability to build larger plants instead of cooling or heating each unit individually significantly increases overall efficiency.

The Place Vendome mall on the beachfront land at Lusail City was built across 800,000 square meters and has investment costs of around QAR5bn ($1.37bn). It accommodates first class hotels, apartments and shops with the most exclusive brands. No doubt, a building like this requires first class air condition, especially in this particular region of the world, where temperatures rise well over 40 °C (105 °F) in summer.

SAMSON supplied a solution to Q.M. Controls (Qatar Modern Instruments & Controls) with a self-operated regulator (SOR) type 42-36 in combination with a control valve from VETEC type 72.3. This VETEC valve is equipped with an electric actuator.
